I’ve been fortunate enough to cycle all around the world, and I can tell you that there are a lot of places out there worth seeing.
But some are better than others, and it pays to know what makes these places special to find the ones that will really make your cycling experience stand out from all of the rest.
These destinations have something unique about them—something which sets them apart from other destinations. And if you want a memorable cycling trip of your own, then read on for 100 of my favorite spots around the globe where cyclists thrive!
1. Cycling in the Netherlands
People are passionate about cycling in the Netherlands, they take great pride in bike culture. It’s easy to understand why when you visit Amsterdam and watch cyclists of all ages riding around on their bicycles—and it’s not uncommon to see groups of people with large families strapping young children into child seats at the back of their bikes.
The Dutch are always on the go, and they usually have a good reason to be—Amsterdam is known for being flat as a pancake, allowing cyclists to travel quickly from one destination to another.
Cyclists also love cycling in the Netherlands because it’s very easy to get around—the network of bike paths is extremely well-mapped and signposted.
And there’s another reason why cyclists enjoy cycling in the Netherlands—the locals, who are known for being friendly by nature, make it a point to welcome cyclists and tourists with open arms. Whether they’re waving to you or stopping to offer directions, the welcoming nature of the Dutch is hard to ignore.
2. Cycling in Southern France
People love cycling in southern France because of its beautiful scenery—from snow-capped mountains and beaches like that on the Cote D’Azur, all the way to vast stretches of golden wheat fields. It’s hard to believe that you can find all of this on one specific stretch of land—and it makes cycling in southern France a unique experience.
The area is also known for its various wine trails, and cyclists have a chance to explore the best vineyards from town to town. And of course, there are plenty of opportunities for cyclists to enjoy the French culture as they ride through villages and small towns.
Cyclists also travel to southern France because it’s known as one of Europe’s best destinations for touring—as a beginner cyclist, you have a lot to learn from visiting places like Saint Raphael, where there’s a wide range of top-notch amenities for cyclists.
3. Cycling in the Peak District, England
The Peak District is one of my favorite cycling destinations in the whole world. The rolling hills covered with lush green grass are what make it so special—the area also has tons of picturesque lakes and breathtaking views of the countryside.
The area is well-known for its cycling trails, which are always in need of maintenance—it’s one of those destinations where it pays to leave no trace behind as a cyclist. And while you could ride through the area on your own, I recommend visiting with a group because cyclists love to share stories and tips about the best trails with one another.
4. Cycling in Chamonix, France
Chamonix is a great destination for cyclists because there are a lot of different things to do—one person might be scaling the mountain tops while someone else is exploring caves by boat or hiking on one of many nearby trails.
The area has some of the best skiing and mountain biking tours in France, which is great for novice cyclists because it allows them to learn more about different terrains and how they affect performance. And if you’re interested in testing your limits on new terrain—the locations around Chamonix are perfect for this as well.
5. Cycling in Nantucket, USA
Nantucket is one of the most unique cycling destinations because you can only get there by boat or plane. If you’re into camping and chilling out on the beach, then this place is for you—cyclists enjoy staying at the Pines campground just outside of town.
While the island is known for being a tourist destination, there are plenty of different activities for cyclists to enjoy as well. You can take sailing lessons on the ocean, make your way out into deep-sea fishing in Cape Poge Bay and explore the eight miles of coastline surrounding Nantucket.
6. Cycling in Northern Italy’s Lakes District
Northern Italy is one of the best cycling destinations on the planet. While most people love biking in this area because of its rolling hills and beautiful scenery, I picked it because I love all the different lakes that are scattered throughout Northern Italy’s Tyrol region.
There are more than 300 lakes in total, which means there’s plenty of shorelines to explore. Cycling in Northern Italy is a great way to relax and enjoy the local scenery—and if you’re lucky enough, you might spot some of the region’s wild animals like deer.
7. Cycling in Lofoten Islands, Norway
Are you looking for a place to immerse yourself in nature and experience some of the most beautiful sunsets on the planet? Then you need to visit the Lofoten Islands. When it comes to designing roads, the area has quite an interesting history—many of the main cycling trails were drawn up by goats!
The unique geography of this area made it difficult for people to walk and travel from place to place, so they resorted to using goats to mark trails. Today, those goat paths are what make the Lofoten Islands one of the best destinations for cyclists—the area also has rugged cliffs on either side of the road, which makes this cycling destination even more dangerous and exciting.
8. Cycling in Segovia, Spain
Some of the most beautiful and picturesque mountain ranges can be found in Segovia, which is one of my all-time favorite cycling destinations. The area has everything from rolling hills to cliffs that rise above the treeline.
Cyclists also have access to incredible views of Northern Spain’s mountains, which are covered in thick forests. The area is often considered to be one of the most romantic places on Earth because you can enjoy peaceful mornings at a local cafe and end your day with a delicious pasta dinner.
9. Cycling in Wales
Cycling in Wales is easy and fun—just watch out for all the sheep! The Welsh countryside is full of rolling hills and beautiful forests—but the best part is that there aren’t too many cars on the road.
You also can’t go wrong with all the castles, like Caernarfon Castle in Gwynedd, Wales, which really make a trip to this area memorable. When I think about Wales, I think about castles that overlook the ocean and breathtaking landscapes.
10. Cycling in Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Visitors often flock to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for hiking trails, but cycling also is one of the most popular activities there as well. There are plenty of different biking trails that start around Cherokee, North Carolina, and eventually connect to Tennessee.
11. Cycling in San Francisco
San Francisco is a breathtaking city with an awesome cycling culture—you can find lots of different trails off the main road that are great for cyclists who want to take a day trip through one of America’s top cities. In many places around San Fran, there’s a great bike trail for every kind of rider.
12. Cycling in Great Wall, China
The Great Wall isn’t the only thing that makes China an awesome place to ride your bike—this destination is also home to the beautiful Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Scenic Spot, which is one of the best places to see blue skies, waterfalls, and rolling hills.
From the famous “Jade Screen” Waterfall at 14 meters (46 feet) tall to Tianmen Mountain—which rises 2,250 feet above sea level—the cycling around this destination is phenomenal. The best part is that it never gets too crowded; most people who visit the area are on a tour group.
13. Cycling in Canada
Canada wasn’t always a haven for cycling, but that has changed over the past few years thanks to people like Lance Armstrong—the country now offers some of the best ridings in North America. When I think about Canada, I think about epic views and fun bike trails.
14. Cycling in Glacier National Park, Montana
The rolling hills and beautiful vistas make the state of Montana a popular destination for cyclists. When you travel to this part of the country, you will enjoy some amazing views—but be sure to skip the winter! The two most popular areas for cyclists are the Flathead Valley and the region around Glacier National Park.
15. Cycling in South Africa
There are plenty of great routes that take cyclists through varying landscapes around South Africa, including rolling hills and lush forests. My favorite area is the Cape Town area, which has an amazing riding scene and fun trails near Table Mountain—which is one of the most spectacular places on Earth and also one of my favorite destinations.
16. Cycling in Germany
Germany is known for its unique, extremely diverse terrain—you’ll find every type of landscape here. There are also hundreds of miles of roads that wind through the country that cyclists enjoy riding. My favorite area is between Düsseldorf and Koblenz, where you can stop at the Eifel National Park.
17. Cycling in Isle of Wight, England
The Isle of Wight is an island full of bike trails that are great for cyclists of all types. There are also hundreds of miles of roads that take you through beautiful countryside—it’s one of the best cycling destinations in all of Europe.
18. Cycling in Yorkshire Dales National Park, England
The beauty is what makes this area so amazing; the park is full of rolling hills and forests that are great for any type of rider—whether you are a serious cyclist or just want to take a little day trip around the countryside.
19. Cycling in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
This is a great destination for anyone who wants to enjoy the beautiful views of Vancouver without having to go through a city—there are tons of bike trails around Victoria that take you away from the hustle and bustle. Some cyclists even bring their families here because it’s a safe place for children.
20. Cycling in Cinque Terre, Italy
It’s hard to believe that the Amalfi Coast isn’t included on most “best of” lists—this area is one of my favorites and has something for everyone. The views are breathtaking, and the coastline is filled with beautiful rock formations.
21. Cycling in Gorges du Verdon, France
This area is full of hills, waterfalls, and lush greenery—and also one of my favorite destinations to ride. The views are incredible as you work your way through the countryside on a bike trail that leads to the beach.
22. Cycling in Northern Territory, Australia
This is one of my favorite areas; it’s filled with hills and beautiful views that can be enjoyed on bike trails that go through remote locations along the coast or the outback. There is also a lot of history here, including some abandoned mines that make for an interesting sight to see while riding.
23. Cycling in New Zealand
The South Island of New Zealand is one of my favorite places on Earth; the scenery is breathtaking, and it’s extremely safe to cycle here. The country offers several different bike trails and ride options, no matter what your skill level.
24. Cycling in The Karakoram Highway, Pakistan
Cyclists have been making this trip for decades, and it’s considered one of the toughest bikes rides out there—it’s rough terrain, but most cyclists say that the views make it worth riding through the mountains.
25. Cycling in Malta
This is one of the most unique areas; a small country covered by typically Mediterranean landscapes and filled with history. The roads here are great for any cyclist, but you can also ride on bike trails that take you through nice villages in the countryside.
26. Cycling in South Downs National Park, England
The South Downs are covered by gorgeous rolling hills, highlands, and forests—and also make for an amazing place to cycle. The trails are safe, and there is something here for every type of cyclist.
27. Cycling in Venice, Italy
I love Venice because it’s a truly European city that you can enjoy on two wheels as you cut through the canals. The bike trails take you from one end of the city to the other—it’s a fun way to get around and enjoy everything that Venice has to offer.
28. Cycling in Black Forest, Germany
The trails here are great for any level of cyclist; however, if you are looking for some adventure, you can even ride through the mountains or add some hills to your cycle. There is also plenty of bike history here to be enjoyed at museums and monuments.
29. Cycling in Cappadocia, Turkey
The area is made up of unique rock formations that you can explore while on a bike; it’s one of the best places for cyclists to enjoy a true adventure while exploring some beautiful countryside.
30. Cycling in Kangaroo Valley, Australia
This is another great place that is not too far from Sydney—the trails here take you through hills and remote forest areas that are perfect for cyclists looking to enjoy some time away from the city.
31. Cycling on the Isle of Man, England
This is one of the most popular places to cycle for tourists and locals alike—the island has easy trails that go through beautiful countryside, along with a few mountain bike areas. But it’s not just about riding through tunnels and forests; you can also visit historic sites or even go for a swim after you’re done with your ride.
32. Cycling in Lake District, England
This is one of my favorite areas to visit while in England; the countryside is beautiful, and there are plenty of bike trails that let you ride through forests or along lakeside paths. There are also a few other activities that you can do while visiting Lake District, including kayaking or hiking.
33. Cycling in the Highlands of Scotland
This is another great area to ride through; there are a ton of different hills and mountains that you can cycle through, and there are also plenty of roads with amazing views. The whole countryside here is beautiful, and there are plenty of bike trails to take you from one end of the Highlands to the other.
33. Cycling in Cascais, Portugal
The area is a beautiful city by the ocean with tons of great activities; it’s another perfect place for cyclists who just want some time away from busy urban areas. There is plenty of great seafood here, but you can also tour vineyards or even go for a swim after you take a break from riding.
35. Cycling in The Hemavati Forest, India
This Indian forest is one of the largest in Asia; it’s a truly unique place where you can ride through a canopy of trees that is home to a variety of wildlife. The area is not too far from Bangalore, and there are plenty of great activities in the city as well.
36. Cycling on Lake Garda, Italy
I’ve been coming here for years because of the scenery and the routes; you can ride along the shore or through hills and forests—and the scenery is one of a kind. It’s great for any level of cyclist, and you can also go swimming or skiing when you are done riding.
37. Cycling in Crete, Greece
This island has tons of hills and mountains that make for some challenging rides; however, it’s also one of the most beautiful places to ride because you get amazing views as you cycle through ancient ruins, rugged terrain, and historic towns.
38. Cycling in Languedoc-Roussillon, France
This is another great area for any level of cyclist; there are challenging hills for experienced cyclists, but it’s also a great area for beginners because of the many trails that take you through some beautiful countryside.
39. Cycling in Nevis Range, Scotland
There is nothing like riding along with a mountain range; it’s an amazing experience to ride on the trails cut into mountainsides and there are so many hills and mountains here that you will never run out of places to ride. There are also plenty of activities in the area, including hiking or snorkeling.
40. Cycling on the Big Island, Hawaii
This is one of my favorite areas for cycling because there are so many different trails that take you through lush tropical forests and amazing ocean views and you will never run out of trails to ride. You can also go exploring after your ride along beaches or through lava fields.
41. Cycling in the Santa Monica Mountains, California
This is a great area for cyclists who like flat areas and pretty scenery; there are plenty of roads that cut through hillsides and long beaches with amazing views. You can ride along the California coast or through the mountains and there are usually good trails for bikers of all levels.
42. Cycling the Cape Cod National Seashore, Massachusetts
This is another amazing area that you can ride along the coast; there are more than 90 miles of trails along the shore here and they all have gorgeous views. You also get to ride through historic towns and past plenty of animals like ponies, deer, cows, and goats.
43. Cycling in Crete Mountains, Greece
You can ride along the slopes of these mountains in the winter; it’s a great area for any level because there are plenty of fun trails you can take. There is also an abundance of wildlife, including foxes and deer so be careful when riding or you might surprise them!
44. Cycling on Texel Island, Netherlands
This area is great because it’s a little island with very few cars; the terrain is hilly which makes for some challenging riding, but there are also plenty of great places to go swimming. The wind can make it a bit difficult to ride here in the winter so if you are going to brave those conditions be sure to bring your goggles!
45. Cycling in Val di Non, Italy
This is a great area because it’s beautiful and only about two hours from Venice; this is another one of those areas where you can ride along the shore or through hills—it’s also a good place to go hiking or swimming in Lake Garda.
46. Cycling in the Wind River Range, Wyoming
This is one of my favorite mountain ranges to ride in the summer because you can ride under trees and get out of the sun—it’s also fun to go on a jeep tour before or after your ride so you see as much of the area as possible.
47. Cycling on the Outer Banks, North Carolina
It’s a lot of fun here because there is so much wildlife; the forests are filled with wild horses and it’s also great to ride along by the ocean where you can watch dolphins and other sea life swim through the surf.
48. Cycling in the Black Forest, Germany
This is a beautiful area with lots to do; you can ride through the forests or near the lake and there are plenty of hiking trails for when you need to stretch your legs. There are also spas in the area if you want to relax after a day on the bike.
49. Cycling in Lucca, Italy
This is another place where you can ride right by the ocean and it’s a great area for cyclers who like to explore new places; there are plenty of good restaurants in Lucca so if you get tired or worn out you don’t have to go far for a nice meal.
50. Cycling in North-Eastern England
This is a great place to ride for cyclers who want the experience of riding through historical areas and it’s been named as one of the top six English cycling destinations. There are also plenty of old churches that you can stop by for a rest or ask if they have any places where you can hear some amazing organ music.
51. Cycling in Valdobbiadene, Italy
This is a great area for cyclers because it’s home to the Antica Fratta winery and they offer cycling tours; you can play with their wines after your ride or go for a stroll through the vineyards where you can pick grapes in summer.
52. Cycling Along the Aletsch Glacier in Switzerland
This is one of those areas where you can ride through a glacier and if you’re feeling brave, go swimming in a lake that is fed by water from the glacier. It’s also an easy area to explore; there are plenty of mountain passes to cycle up and down plus it’s a great destination for those who want to see lots of wildlife like ibex or eagles.
53. Cycling In The Lüneburg Heath, Germany
This is a beautiful area with forested areas and miles and miles of rolling hills; if you get tired there are plenty of castles and historic towns that you can visit.
54. Cycling in the Central Gobi Desert, Mongolia
This is a fantastic area to cycle because hardly anyone else goes there and you don’t have to worry about traffic; it’s an easy place to ride but just be careful of other cyclists on your trip because you are one of the only people who will be coming there.
55. Cycling in the Canadian Rockies, Canada
This is one of those areas where you can ride through vast expanses of open land; it’s a beautiful area that has mountains on all sides no matter which direction you go and the routes are free from traffic so it’s a great place for those who like to cross-country cycle.
56. Cycling in Marmolada, Italy
This area is one of my favorite places in the world because it’s so beautiful and you can ride through the Dolomite mountains as well as stop off at a ski resort; there are also plenty of great restaurants in the area
57. Cycling in the Beartooth Mountains, Montana
This is another area where you can ride through some great mountains; the roads are pretty empty and if you want to stop for a swim there are many lakes and streams around that you can choose from. It’s also fun riding around at night because of all of the different stars out there.

This is a great place to cycle because you get to enjoy the natural beauty of an island plus there are lots of islands nearby that you can explore; it’s also a fun area for those who want to go boating or fishing while they ride.

This is an area that has recently become popular with cycle tourists and it’s easy to see why; it’s a great place for cyclers who like something new because there are plenty of restaurants and shops that you can stop by before or after your cycle trip.
60. Cycling in the Dolomites, Italy
This is an area of amazing beauty and it’s a great place for cyclers who want to see a lot of wildlife; there are lots of upper-class hotels and restaurants plus all kinds of shops along the route so you can treat yourself if you like.

This is a great area for cyclers who want to see what it’s like in some of England’s prettier areas; there are plenty of nice hotels nearby and many of them can even store your cycle if you don’t want to bring it with you.

This is a new area for cycle tourists but it’s a fantastic destination for those who want to ride through one of Europe’s prettiest wine regions; there are lots of great restaurants and hotels nearby plus many of them will even store your cycle for you if it’s not with you.

This is a stunning area of mountains and lakes that has seen an increase in popularity among cycle tourists; it’s a great place to take a break from your cycle because there are plenty of hotels nearby plus lots of shops where you can buy souvenirs.

This is one of those areas that has to be experienced to be believed; it’s a stunning archipelago with many miles and miles of breathtaking scenery plus you can get up close to nature while you ride here.
65. Cycling the Blue Mountains, Australia
This is another area that has recently become popular with cycle tourists and it’s easy to see why; this is a great place for cyclers who want to get away from the crowds as the Blue Mountain area is free of traffic so you can ride around without having to worry about other traffic.
66. Cycling in the Kalahari Desert, Nambia
This is a great area for cycle tourists who like to do their cycling close to nature as the desert is full of animals and there are many different types of plants growing along the route; it’s a great place to stop and take in some of Africa’s natural beauty.

This is another area that has recently become very popular with cycle tourists; this route goes through the Dolomite Mountains and offers views overlooking Lake Garda as well as mountains full of wildlife; it’s a great place to stop and enjoy the otherworldly surroundings.
